2025 Spring Softball Program
The South Windsor Little League offers fastpitch softball for girls between the ages of 4 and 14. The spring softball program for 2025 will consist of five levels of play (Girls Tee Ball, Minors AA, Minors AAA, Majors, and Juniors) as described below. Eligibility for each division is dependent on a player’s softball age and experience. Softball age for the 2025 spring season is a players age as of 12/31/2024.
Equipment generally needed at all levels of play: Batting helmet with face shield, fastpitch softball glove, fastpitch softball bat (Stamped with BPF 1.20), fielder’s face mask, black softball pants, cleats (non-metal for all levels except Juniors). Loaner bats, batting helmets, fielder’s face masks, and catcher’s equipment is available.

Girls Tee Ball (Ages 4-6):
The Girls Tee Ball softball division is open to girls from softball age 4 to 6. This level is meant to introduce players to the fundamentals and basic rules of softball, while fostering a positive spirit that encourages girls to develop a passion to play. Players will learn the basic skills of hitting, fielding, throwing, base running as well as being introduced to general concepts of the sport. A ten-inch training softball, sixty-foot base paths and a batting tee are utilized for this level. Towards the end of the season, girls may be introduced to coach pitch, at the coach’s discretion. Typically, teams will have 1 practice and 1 game per calendar week.
 
Minors AA Softball (Ages 7-9; Age 6 with at least 1-year of tee ball):
The Minors AA softball division is open to girls from softball age 7 to 9. Players softball age 6 are eligible to play, if they have at least 1 season of tee ball experience, and approval from the VP of Softball. This level is a coach pitch division where players will build upon the basic skills of hitting, fielding, throwing, base running and be introduced to the rules of fastpitch softball for the first time. An eleven-inch softball, sixty-foot base paths and a thirty-five-foot pitching distance will be utilized for this level. Teams may play other local towns so some travel is required. Typically, teams will play or practice a maximum of three times per calendar week.
Minors AAA Softball (Ages 8-11):
The Minors AAA softball division is open to girls from softball age 8 to 11. While the emphasis is still on basic skill development, this level is more competitive than the Minors AA division with pitching being a combination of player and coach pitch. An eleven-inch softball, sixty-foot base paths and a thirty-five-foot pitching distance will be utilized for this level. Teams will play other local towns so some travel is required. Typically, teams will play or practice a maximum of three times per calendar week.
 
Majors Softball (Ages 10-12):
The Majors softball division is open to girls from softball age 10 to 12. This level is more advanced than the Minors AAA division and the full Little League softball rules apply. All games are pitched by players (no coach pitch). Players will learn advanced hitting, fielding and base running. A twelve-inch softball, sixty-foot base paths and a forty-foot pitching distance will be utilized for this level. Teams will play other local towns so some travel is necessary. Typically, teams will play or practice a maximum of three times per calendar week.

Juniors Softball (Ages 12-14):
The Juniors softball division is open to girls from softball age 12 to 14. Girls age 12 are eligible to dual roster on Majors and Juniors rosters with approval from the VP of Softball. This level has similar rules to the Majors softball division, provides opportunities for continued development as girls transition into Middle/High School. Players will continue to learn advanced hitting, fielding and base running. A twelve-inch softball, sixty-foot base paths and a forty-three-foot pitching distance will be utilized for this level. Teams will play other local towns so some travel is necessary. Typically, teams will play or practice a maximum of three times per calendar week.




Junior - Little League Softball - Girls

NOTE: Depending on final registration counts, players/teams may need to integrate with Baseball Tee Ball.
